Sunday Morning French Toast L´Orange

This morning felt like a french toast morning. I haven’t made french toast for years and I forgot how quick, easy and delicious it is. When we were in Ottawa hubby surprised me by ordering it for brunch. Twice. Something he never orders. He even reached a bite of it on his fork, across the table to towards me, and said “taste.” Something he never does. It was good, melt in your mouth good, and it was simply made with just eggs, milk, sugar etc. In an effort to impress him, I served this up this morning. It was rich, buttery and just the right amount of sweet. -bvox

French Toast L’Orange

  • 4 thick slices of bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Juice and zest from 1/2 an orange
  • 1 Tbsp grand marnier
  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup + more for toast
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (hubby’s favourite)
  • Butter for pan and for toast
  • Icing sugar
  1. In a shallow baking dish whisk eggs, milk, juices, zest, syrup, grand marnier and cinnamon together.
  2. Heat pan over medium-high heat and melt 1 tbsp butter
  3. While pan is heating and butter melting, soak each side of bread in the egg mixture for a few minutes
  4. Cook each side of the bread for 3-5 minutes or until golden
  5. Dust with icing sugar and add desired toppings
