Welcome to Shiny Tomato, a food blog by the Vockeroth sisters.

Why Shiny Tomato you ask? In our family we call good looking women “Shiny Tomatoes” and our mom is a Shiny Tomato. She taught us a lot about cooking good food, canning, entertaining and how to set a mean table.

We also share a big love of tomatoes. Particularly fresh tomatoes with a sprinkling of salt. One of our favourite sandwiches is a toasted tomato sandwich  on sourdough bread with a touch a mayo and salt and pepper. That’s all you need. Some would argue you need bacon and lettuce on it too. Then we say throw in the kitchen sink and add avocado and sharp white cheddar.

Enjoy the dishing of two sisters.

XXOO.

p.s. all the women in our family are shiny tomatoes

The Vockeroth sisters are indeed shiny tomatoes and phenomenal cooks…I can testify from personal experience. Such talent in putting different flavors together. I have been known to contact them on occasion for advice. Love this blog!

such a lovely story, much of what I learn to do in the kitchen is also from my dear mum(: oh and I absolutely love fresh summer tomatoes on a slice of sourdough bread, need nothing more than a drizzle of good extra virgin olive oil over (:

You come from a family of shiny tomatoes. Except maybe for Uncle Doug who’s more of a Shiny Honey Dew Melon.
